SBP Designates HBL a Domestic Systemically Important Bank for 2026
The State Bank of Pakistan named HBL, UBL, and National Bank of Pakistan as Domestic Systemically Important Banks (D-SIBs) for 2026, based on an assessment of size, interconnectedness, substitutability, and complexity as of December 31, 2025. HBL was placed in Bucket C, requiring an additional 1.5% Common Equity Tier-1 (CET-1) capital buffer on top of standard requirements, effective March 31, 2027, along with enhanced supervisory oversight. This is an annual redesignation — HBL has held D-SIB status every year since the framework began in 2018 — not a new or unusual event, but it does mean a higher capital bar going forward. HBL Declares H1'26 Profit Before Tax of Rs 73.1 Billion
HBL announced its half-year 2026 results, posting a consolidated profit before tax of Rs 73.1 billion, which the Bank framed around continued client focus and disciplined execution of strategy. HBL Named Pakistan's Best Bank 2026 by Euromoney
Euromoney Awards for Excellence 2026 named HBL "Pakistan's Best Bank," alongside four other category wins: Best Retail Bank, Best Bank for Sustainable Finance, Best for Capital Markets Advisory, and Best Investment Bank for M&A. Euromoney's citation pointed to HBL's role advising on Pakistan's first Panda Bond and its work on major infrastructure financing. President & CEO Muhammad Nassir Salim called it "a tribute to our millions of clients' continued trust and confidence in HBL."

HBL Launches PayPak UnionPay Co-Badge Debit Card
HBL, in partnership with 1LINK-operated PayPak and UnionPay International, launched a dual-network debit card combining PayPak's domestic acceptance with UnionPay's global reach on a single piece of plastic. SBP Deputy Governor Saleem Ullah and HBL President & CEO Muhammad Nassir Salim attended the Karachi launch ceremony; SBP Governor Jameel Ahmad later called it a milestone toward a "Cashless Pakistan." HBL Goes Live on Temenos Core Banking
HBL completed the first phase of a core banking migration to Temenos, moving customer accounts from 200 branches onto the new cloud-native platform, delivered by Systems Limited. The initial go-live supports both Conventional and Islamic Banking. Once fully rolled out, the program is set to cover HBL's full branch network and more than 40 million accounts, processing roughly 20 million transactions a day — one of the largest core banking modernization programs in the region.

HBL Renews HBL PSL Title Sponsorship Through 2027
HBL renewed its title sponsorship of the HBL Pakistan Super League for seasons 11 (2026) and 12 (2027), extending a partnership that began at the League's 2016 inception to 12 years. The 2026 season also introduced two new franchises, Hyderabad Kingsmen and Rawalpindi Pindiz, taking the League to eight teams.
