HBL Roshan Digital Account Guide

Part of PakFinHub's HBL coverage — see the full bank overview.

For Overseas Pakistanis Zakat-Exempt

The HBL Roshan Digital Account, branded eBanc, lets Non-Resident Pakistanis open and operate a Pakistani account fully digitally — no embassy visit, no branch trip. As Pakistan's largest bank, HBL layers a full suite of RDA-linked financing and investment products on top of the base account. This page brings all of it together in one place.

HBL Roshan Digital Account — eBanc Basics

eBanc Roshan Digital Account (Conventional)

Digital account for overseas Pakistanis, opened remotely via FCVA or NRVA account structures. Available in PKR, USD, GBP, EUR, SAR, AED, CAD, or CNY. One restriction worth knowing upfront: funds can only enter the account via inward remittance from abroad — you can't deposit locally from within Pakistan.

eBanc Roshan Digital Account (Islamic)

Shariah-compliant RDA variant, with its own Shariah certificate.

Asaan eBanc RDA

Simplified RDA variant offering PKR and foreign-currency debit cards, mobile app access, and multiple investment avenues including Naya Pakistan Certificates and CDC-listed shares.

Confirmed directly from HBL's official Roshan Digital Account and eBanc RDA product pages (hbl.com/personal/rda).

Naya Pakistan Certificates via HBL

NPCs are subscribed through your FCVA or NRVA (RDA) account and come in five tenors — 3-month, 6-month, 12-month, 3-year, and 5-year — in your choice of PKR, USD, GBP, EUR, SAR, or AED. Minimum investment is PKR 10,000 (in multiples of PKR 1,000) for rupee-denominated certificates, or 1,000 units (in multiples of 500) for foreign-currency certificates. The 3, 6, and 12-month certificates are zero-coupon (profit paid at maturity); the 3-year and 5-year certificates pay profit every six months instead.

This 3-month rate row is confirmed from the State Bank of Pakistan's own NPC FAQ page (sbp.org.pk/NPC-/FAQs.html), which HBL and other agent banks reference for their own NPC rate sheets. Full 6-month, 12-month, 3-year, and 5-year figures — and any revision after the SBP's rates change — are published on HBL's own Naya Pakistan Certificates page and revised periodically by the Government of Pakistan; always check the current rate there before subscribing, since NPC yields move independently of deposit rates. A 10% withholding tax applies to NPC profit as a full and final tax discharge, and NPCs are exempt from compulsory Zakat deduction under the Zakat and Ushr Ordinance, 1980. Early encashment is allowed after the first three months, at the rate of the nearest shorter completed tenor.

Zakat & Support

Under Section 3(1)(a)(b) of the Zakat and Ushr Ordinance, 1980, HBL states that compulsory Zakat deduction does not apply to RDA accounts — neither FCVA nor NRVA. For queries, HBL's dedicated RDA line is a 24/7 UAN number, and RDA-specific complaints route to a separate email address from general customer complaints.

Confirmed directly from HBL's official Asaan eBanc RDA FAQ page.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need to visit Pakistan to open an RDA?

No — that's the whole point of eBanc Roshan Digital Account. It's opened remotely, entirely digitally, without an embassy visit or branch trip.

What's the difference between conventional and Islamic RDA?

The Islamic variant runs on Shariah-compliant structures and has its own Shariah certificate — otherwise the digital onboarding process is the same. RDA complaints for either variant route to a dedicated address, Roshan.complaints@hbl.com, separate from HBL's general complaints email.

Can I invest through my RDA, not just hold savings?

Yes — RDA-linked products extend to Naya Pakistan Certificates and CDC-listed shares, on top of the base FCVA/NRVA account structures.

Confirmed directly from HBL's official Roshan Digital Account pages (hbl.com).
