Dubai Islamic Bank Products and Islamic Contracts Explained

Each DIB product sits on a specific Islamic contract. This page maps them and defines the terms.

  • Product to Contract Map
  • Plain Language

Islamic finance terms appear on every DIB product page, but they are rarely explained side by side. This page shows which contract each DIB product uses, then defines the terms in plain language, with links to the product pages.

Plain Language Definitions

Mudarabah

A partnership where one side provides the funds and the other manages them. Profit is shared by a pre-agreed ratio and losses fall on the fund provider. DIB uses it for deposits.

Ijarah

A lease, where the bank owns the asset and the customer pays rent for its use. DIB uses it for auto finance and auto leasing.

Musawamah

A sale at a price negotiated between the two parties. DIB uses it for Personal Finance.

Diminishing Musharaka

A partnership in which the customer gradually buys out the bank’s share. DIB uses it for business finance, and its home finance model is a related diminishing partnership.

Takaful

Islamic insurance. On the DIB auto finance calculator, Takaful rates apply on top of the estimate.

KIBOR

The Karachi Interbank Offered Rate. DIB says monthly rent on auto finance may vary with the KIBOR benchmark.

Definitions are general explanations of the terms, written for this page. The DIB product mapping above is what DIB itself describes.

Why the Contract Changes What You Pay

Under Mudarabah, a deposit earns a share of pool profit, so the published rate can change each month. Under Ijarah, you pay rent, and DIB says that rent can move with KIBOR. Under a diminishing partnership, your ownership share grows as you pay. The contract explains why a DIB deposit is not compared to a conventional interest rate one to one, and why finance is quoted as rent or a rental rate.

Official Sources & Last Verified

Product structures were compiled on October 31, 2026 from the linked PakFinHub pages, each of which names its DIB source. Oversight of these structures sits with DIB’s Shariah Board, covered on the Shariah governance page.
