Dubai Islamic Bank Profit Rates

Part of PakFinHub's DIB coverage — deposit profit rates and product weightages.

  • Mudarabah-Based
  • Published Monthly

Dubai Islamic Bank profit rates aren't fixed in advance the way conventional interest rates are — they're calculated after the fact from actual pool earnings, then published monthly. This page walks through the mechanism, and where to find the current month's numbers.

How DIB Calculates Profit Rates

By depositing into a Mudarabah-based account — savings, term deposit/fixed deposit — the customer acts as Rabbul-Maal (fund provider) and DIBPL acts as Mudarib (fund manager). DIBPL pools these deposits together with shareholders' equity into its Common Mudaraba Pool, then invests that pool in Shari'a-compliant financing and assets. At the end of each month, DIBPL calculates the actual income the pool generated, and profit is distributed between the bank and depositors according to a pre-agreed profit-sharing ratio and weightages set at the start of that month — not a rate promised in advance.

What Determines Your Weightage

Tenor

Longer-tenor deposits (e.g. a 2-year fixed deposit vs a 1-year one) carry a higher weightage, meaning a larger profit share.

Deposit Amount

Larger balance tiers are assigned progressively higher weightages within the same tenor.

Profit Payment Frequency

Monthly, quarterly, semi-annual, or at-maturity payout options each carry their own weightage.

Where to Check the Current Month's Actual Rates

Because Shari'a principles don't allow a bank to commit to a profit rate in advance, DIB cannot publish next month's rate today — it can only confirm the rate after the pool's actual income for that month is known. DIB publishes a "Weightage & Profit Sharing Ratio Announcement" document every month on its official website with the exact current figures by tenor and deposit tier. Because these change monthly, any specific percentage published anywhere — including on this page — should be treated as historical unless it's from that current month's official DIB announcement.

Fixed Deposit Tenor Options

DIB's Fixed Deposit (Term Deposit) accounts are available in tenors of 1, 3, and 6 months, or 1, 2, 3, 5, and 7 years, with a minimum investment of Rs. 100,000 or USD 2,000, and profit payable monthly, quarterly, semi-annually, or at maturity. Premature encashment recalculates profit based on the weightage of the tier the deposit actually stayed in, not the original booked tier.

Dubai Islamic Bank Profit Rates FAQs

Why doesn't Dubai Islamic Bank publish a fixed profit rate in advance?

Because its accounts operate under Mudarabah, an Islamic profit-and-loss sharing contract — the rate can only be confirmed after actual pool income for the month is known, then published as that month's official rate.

What determines my Dubai Islamic Bank profit weightage?

Three factors: the tenor of your deposit, the deposit amount tier, and your chosen profit payment frequency.
