Fixed Deposits

On the term-deposit side you've got the Mahana Deposit (pays out monthly), Premium Deposit, Izafa Certificate, Pakistan Banao Certificates, a plain Fixed Deposit, Short Notice Term Deposit, and Bharpoor Munafa Term Deposit. Rates and minimum amounts shift with each product and get revised periodically, so pull the live numbers from a branch or HabibMetro's rates page before you lock money away for a fixed term.

Cheque Book Charges

Your first cheque book is free, no matter the account type. After that, it's per-leaf pricing — unless you're keeping an average monthly balance of PKR 1 million or more, in which case current, savings, and Basic Banking accounts get the charge waived.

Account TypeSubsequent Cheque Book
Current Accounts (PKR/FCY)Rs. 29/leaf, waived if avg. monthly balance ≥ Rs. 1 million (up to 50 leaves)
Saving Accounts (PKR/FCY)Rs. 29/leaf, same waiver condition
Basic Banking AccountRs. 29/leaf or Rs. 100 (25-leaf book)

Cheque book charges confirmed from HabibMetro’s official Schedule of Charges, 1 July–31 December 2026.

Debit Cards — Annual Fees

Debit cards come in several Visa tiers, plus UnionPay and PayPak alternatives, and most current or savings accounts issue a standard card by default. Activation, PIN setup, and blocking/unblocking all run through the Insta app — or the 24/7 helpline if you'd rather talk to a person.

Card TierAnnual Fee

Visa Gold Debit CardRs. 4,400
Visa Platinum Debit Card*Rs. 7,500
Visa Business Debit CardRs. 16,000

Minimum Balance & Service Charges

A handful of account tiers only waive their service charge if you clear a minimum monthly average balance — dip below it in any given month and the flat charge kicks in for that month. Straight from the bank's own Schedule of Charges:

AccountBalance ThresholdCharge if Below
Silver Current AccountRs. 50,000 (monthly avg.)Rs. 375 flat
Business Banking AccountRs. 3,000,000 (monthly avg.)Rs. 1,000 flat
Basic Banking AccountRs. 10,000 (monthly avg.)Rs. 43 + taxes
General Savings AccountsRs. 50,000 (monthly avg.)Rs. 180 flat*

*Does not apply to regular PLS Saving, Ladies Saving, all current accounts, Basic Banking, Asaan accounts, HABIBMETRO@Work, or Roshan Digital Account. Confirmed from HabibMetro’s official Schedule of Charges, 1 July–31 December 2026.

Documents Typically Required

Nothing unusual here for a Pakistani bank: a valid CNIC (NICOP or POC if you're overseas), proof of income or occupation for certain tiers, and an initial deposit depending on the product. The Asaan and Basic Banking accounts exist specifically to cut that documentation down for people who'd otherwise struggle to open one. Exact requirements shift a little by account type, so confirm with your branch before you show up expecting a five-minute process. Minors need a valid Form-B or Juvenile Card rather than a CNIC.

Zakat Exemption: The CZ-50 Form Requirement Most Guides Skip

If you're opening a profit-bearing account (savings, PLS, or similar) and want to claim Zakat exemption — typically because you're non-Muslim, or a Muslim who handles Zakat calculation independently — you'll need to submit a CZ-50 declaration form. The detail most account-opening guides leave out: this isn't just a form you fill and hand over. Per HabibMetro's own account opening guidelines, the CZ-50 must be executed on a minimum Rs. 50 stamp paper and duly attested by a Notary Public before submission. Turning up with an unnotarized, plain-paper version is a common reason this step gets rejected and has to be redone. For digital account opening, the notarized document still needs to be uploaded in scanned form along with your other paperwork.

Is Your Money Protected?

Yes, up to a point — and it's worth knowing the actual number rather than assuming. HabibMetro, like every scheduled bank in Pakistan, is a mandatory member institution of the Deposit Protection Corporation (DPC), a subsidiary of the State Bank of Pakistan. If a bank were ever declared failed by SBP, DPC compensates eligible depositors up to PKR 1,000,000 per depositor, per bank — raised from the original Rs. 500,000 limit. This isn't unique to HabibMetro; it's a sector-wide protection every scheduled bank in Pakistan carries. A separate Shariah-compliant version of the mechanism, the Deposit Protection Waqf, covers Islamic banking deposits including those held under SIRAT.

Checking for Unclaimed Deposits

Inherited an old account, or lost track of one from years back? HabibMetro publishes an official Unclaimed Deposits list, updated periodically, covering accounts that have gone dormant per SBP's regulatory framework for unclaimed bank balances. Worth a quick check if you suspect there's a forgotten account under your name or a family member's — the process to reclaim it runs through your nearest branch once you've confirmed a match.
