UBL is named directly by SBP as a key partner in the Roshan Digital Account (RDA) initiative, and has built out a full product set on top of it — home financing, equity investment, remittance programs, and a pension plan — specifically for overseas Pakistanis and, in some cases, resident Pakistanis with declared foreign assets.

What's Built on the UBL Roshan Digital Account

UBL Roshan Digital Account

The core account product for non-resident and eligible resident Pakistanis to bank and invest from abroad, opened fully digitally.

UBL Roshan Apna Ghar

Home financing built specifically for RDA holders.

Roshan Equity Investment

Lets RDA holders invest directly in Pakistan Stock Exchange-listed equities.

Sohni Dharti Remittance Program

UBL's remittance incentive program tied to the RDA/NRP framework.

UBL Roshan Pension Plan

A pension product available to RDA account holders.

Roshan Nama

Part of UBL's documented RDA product suite for overseas Pakistanis.

The RDA framework itself was launched by the State Bank of Pakistan in partnership with participating banks, not designed by UBL alone.

Product names confirmed directly from UBL's official Roshan Digital Account menu (ubldigital.com/NRP-Services/ubl-roshan-digital-account). Specific rates, fees, and eligibility for each product change periodically — check each official product page before applying.

What the RDA Actually Costs

UBL publishes a separate Schedule of Bank Charges specifically for the Roshan Digital Account, distinct from its main retail SOC. Most day-to-day banking on an RDA is free — the charges that do apply sit mainly around debit card issuance and international card use.

Naya Pakistan Certificates — RDA's Flagship Investment

For most people researching an RDA, the actual draw isn't the account itself — it's Naya Pakistan Certificates (NPCs), the government-issued sovereign investment instruments that RDA holders can buy once the account is open. NPCs are issued by the Government of Pakistan and administered by SBP, available in PKR, USD, GBP, EUR, SAR, and AED (SAR/AED added since June 2026), across 3-month, 6-month, 12-month, 3-year, and 5-year tenors, with a Shariah-compliant Islamic version (Mudarabah-based) also available. A conventional and an Islamic version exist side by side.

Indicative rates as advertised by agent banks generally sit around 11.5%–12.75% p.a. on PKR-denominated certificates and roughly 6.75%–7.75% p.a. on USD-denominated certificates, though the exact rate depends on tenor and the specific issuance window — SBP revises these periodically, and different agent banks may quote slightly different figures at any given time. Minimum investment is PKR 10,000 (in multiples of PKR 1,000) for rupee certificates, or 1,000 units (in multiples of 500) for foreign-currency certificates, with no stated maximum. A flat 10% final withholding tax generally applies to NPC profit, with no filer/non-filer distinction — though tax treatment can change, so confirm current tax rules before investing.

NPC structure, tenors, and currency options confirmed from SBP's official Naya Pakistan Certificate page. Indicative rate ranges and tax treatment are compiled from multiple RDA agent banks' own published NPC pages (rates change periodically and vary slightly by bank/issuance window) — not a UBL-specific figure, since NPCs are a single SBP-administered instrument sold identically across all participating banks including UBL. Confirm the live rate directly through your UBL RDA before investing; a number that's a few weeks old can already be out of date.

Documents Typically Required to Open an RDA

Opening a Roshan Digital Account generally requires a valid Pakistani CNIC or NICOP (for overseas Pakistanis) or a passport with valid visa/residency proof (for eligible foreign nationals), along with proof of your overseas address and employment or income documentation. Because the account is opened remotely, UBL verifies identity digitally rather than through an in-person branch visit, which is what makes the whole product usable from outside Pakistan in the first place.

Tax treatment is a common question for RDA holders: income and capital gains on RDA-linked investments generally follow Pakistan's tax rules for non-resident individuals, which differ from resident tax treatment in several respects. Because tax rules change and depend on individual residency status, confirming your specific position with a tax advisor familiar with Pakistani NRP tax rules is worth doing before committing significant funds, rather than relying on general guidance alone.

One more distinction worth knowing upfront: an RDA is not the same as a standard non-resident account at a Pakistani bank branch — it was purpose-built for remote opening and remote management from day one, whereas a conventional NRP account historically required at least an initial branch visit or a physical mailed application. That difference is largely why RDA adoption grew as quickly as it did among overseas Pakistanis who wanted to avoid the older process entirely.
