MCB Bank account opening starts with picking the right product family — current, savings, or term deposit — before you even walk into a branch or open the MCB Live app. This guide covers MCB Bank account opening requirements and current profit rates for every account MCB Bank publishes in its official provisional profit rate circular.
MCB revises its provisional profit rates roughly every six months. The rates below are effective August 1, 2026 through December 31, 2026, per MCB's official circular (Ref: FCG-BS-2026-33, dated July 30, 2026). Rates will change again from January 2027 — always confirm the current rate with MCB directly before opening an account.
Savings Accounts: Profit Rate — 10.00% Per Annum
Following an SBP directive (BPRD Circular Letter No. 15, dated July 6, 2026), MCB's Minimum Deposit Rate (MDR) requirement — the regulatory floor that guarantees a minimum profit rate — now applies only to individual (natural person) savings accounts with a monthly average balance up to PKR 10 million. Effective August 1, 2026, virtually every MCB savings product pays a flat 10.00% per annum for MDR-eligible customers, unchanged from the July 2026 rate:
| MDR-Eligible Savings Products (individuals, balance up to PKR 10M) | Rate (per annum) |
|---|---|
| PLS Savings Account | 10.00% |
| Khushali Bachat Account | 10.00% |
| PLS Savings - 365 / Savings 365 Gold / PLS Savings XTRA | 10.00% |
| MCB Smart Savings Account | 10.00% |
| MCB Savings Maximizer Account | 10.00% |
| MCB Salary Club Savings Account | 10.00% |
| MCB Pensioner / Senior Citizen Savings Account | 10.00% |
| MCB Asaan Savings Account / Asaan Digital Savings Account | 10.00% |
| Roshan Digital Savings Account | 10.00% |
| MCB Freelancer Digital / Pak Rupee Savings Account | 10.00% |
| MCB Young Savings Account / Teenagers Savings Account | 10.00% |
| MCB Nayab Savings Account / PLS Prime Account | 10.00% |
For accounts that fall outside MDR eligibility - corporate, institutional, or individual accounts holding more than PKR 10 million - the rate drops to 8.50% per annum effective August 1, 2026 (down from 10.00% before the SBP rule change):
| Non-MDR Savings Accounts | Rate (from Aug 1, 2026) |
|---|---|
| Financial institutions, public sector enterprises, public limited companies | 8.50% |
| Private limited companies, sole proprietors, partnerships, trusts, other legal entities | 8.50% |
| Individuals with monthly average balance exceeding PKR 10 million | 8.50% |
If you're sitting close to that PKR 10 million mark, pay attention: cross it and your savings rate drops from 10.00% straight down to 8.50%. That's not a rounding difference — it's real money over a year, and it's exactly why people with larger balances split them across term deposits or separate accounts instead of parking everything in one savings account.
Term Deposits: Rates by Tenor
MCB's term deposit rates (effective rate, at maturity) for the PKR 100,000-499,999 balance tier, per the July-December 2026 rate sheet:
| Tenor | Effective Rate (at maturity) |
|---|---|
| 1 Month | 6.84% |
| 3 Months | 6.92% |
| 6 Months | 7.02% |
| 12 Months | 7.07% |
| 24 Months | 7.04% |
| 36 Months | 6.98% |
| 60 Months | 7.14% |
Deposits of PKR 500,000 and above earn a slightly higher rate at the same tenors - for example, 7.12% at 12 months and 7.19% at 60 months, versus 7.07% and 7.14% respectively at the lower tier. MCB also lets customers choose the payout frequency (monthly, quarterly, semi-annual, or at maturity) on most term deposits; choosing a shorter payout interval slightly reduces the simple annual rate compared to letting profit compound to maturity. For deposits above the stated tiers, MCB notes that clients should approach their branch manager directly for negotiated special rates.
MCB's Higher Mahana Profit Account pays 7.03% (effective) on its 3-year tier - broadly in line with MCB's standard 36-month term deposit rate, but structured to pay out monthly rather than at maturity, which suits depositors who want a steady monthly income stream from their savings.

Calculator Sources & Method
Savings rates (10.00% MDR-eligible / 8.50% non-MDR) and the Rs. 100,000–499,999 term deposit tenor table are taken directly from MCB Bank's official circular "Revision in Provisional Profit Rates – LCY Deposits from August 01, 2026 to December 31, 2026" (Ref: FCG-BS-2026-33).
Term deposit profit is calculated by compounding the published effective annual rate over the tenor: Maturity Value = Principal × (1 + rate)^(tenor in years). Savings profit is calculated as a simple estimate: Principal × rate × (months ÷ 12), assuming a steady balance.
Deposits of Rs. 500,000 and above earn a slightly higher rate at the same tenors — MCB confirms 7.12% at 12 months and 7.19% at 60 months, but has not published a full tenor table for this tier, so this calculator does not estimate it. If your deposit is Rs. 500,000+, treat this calculator's output as a conservative floor and confirm your exact rate with MCB.

Foreign Currency Accounts
MCB's foreign currency savings accounts pay a nominal 0.01% per annum across all balance tiers and currencies (USD, GBP, EUR, JPY, CAD, AED, SAR, CNY, CHF) - effectively a safekeeping rate rather than a meaningful return, which is typical across Pakistani banks for FCY savings given SBP's foreign exchange regulatory framework. MCB's Smart Term Deposit product for foreign currency pays more: USD/GBP fixed deposits pay up to 3.00% per annum at 3-months-and-longer tenors (1.00% for 1-month), while EUR fixed deposits pay a flat 1.00% regardless of tenor.
All profit rates confirmed directly from MCB Bank's official circular "Revision in Provisional Profit Rates - LCY Deposits from August 01, 2026 to December 31, 2026" (Ref: FCG-BS-2026-33, dated July 30, 2026), referencing SBP's BPRD Circular Letter No. 15 dated July 6, 2026. These are provisional rates and subject to change at MCB's discretion within the stated period; always confirm the live rate with MCB before opening an account.

Dormant Accounts & Unclaimed Deposits
Two account-terms rules apply across MCB's deposit products, not just one specific account type. If no customer-initiated transaction (debit or credit) or activity — including simply logging into the MCB Live mobile app — takes place for one year, the account becomes Dormant / In-Operative: debit transactions and withdrawals are blocked until you reactivate it, which you can do at a branch or through the MCB Live app.
Separately, under Section 31 of the Banking Companies Ordinance, 1962, any deposit or financial instrument (bank draft, pay order, banker's cheque, telegraphic transfer, etc.) on which no transaction has taken place and no statement has been requested or acknowledged for 15 years is classified as an unclaimed deposit. Surrendered unclaimed deposits can still be claimed back through the bank — contact your MCB branch or the 111-000-622 Contact Centre.
Dormant account and unclaimed deposit rules confirmed directly from MCB's official Key Fact Statement for Deposit Products (K5-H1-2026 / K7-H1-2026, period January-June 2026), citing Section 31 of the Banking Companies Ordinance, 1962.
