The Bank of Punjab publishes a half-yearly "Schedule of Bank Charges" (SOBC) for its Taqwa Islamic Banking division, listing every fee it can charge a customer — from cheque books to letter-of-credit commissions. The version below reflects the schedule effective July 1, 2026 to December 31, 2026, Shariah-cleared by BOP's Resident Shariah Board Member. F. General Notes

  • UC charges for educational-institution fee payments capped at 0.50% of fee/dues or Rs. 25 per instrument, whichever is less
  • Service/account-maintenance charges cannot be recovered from UNSC/OFAC-frozen, dormant, or deceased accounts
  • No FED/PST applies in Gilgit-Baltistan on any banking service
  • Cheque book, cheque return, Hajj/Umrah, and utility-bill charges are FED/PST-exempt in Azad Jammu & Kashmir and Islamabad
  • Blind/differently-abled customers are exempt from monthly account-maintenance charges
  • No FED applies on any service listed as free

G. BOP Roshan Digital Account (RDA)

RDA is available in two currency structures — a Foreign Currency Value Account (FCVA) and a Non-Resident Rupee Value Account (NRVA) — for both the Regular and Lower Income segments. Under the current SOBC, account maintenance, SMS alerts, intercity/intra-city cash withdrawal, cheque-book issuance (first leaf), UC issuance/cancellation, e-statements, and online/mobile banking are free on both FCVA and NRVA. FCY debit cards for RDA carry an annual fee of USD 15 (Regular/Platinum) or USD 12 (Lower Income/Gold). NRVA-linked local debit cards follow the same Classic/Gold/Platinum fee structure as Section B-7.

H. BOP Staff (Staff Salary Account Only)

Staff salary accounts receive concessional pricing: UC issuance/duplicate/cancellation/revalidation at Re. 1 per instrument, foreign remittances against Pak Rupees free, one small-size locker at Re. 1.16 (key deposit exempted), cheque books at Re. 1 per book, and free stop-payment, balance confirmation, duplicate statements, and same-day clearing.

Do These Charges Vary by City?

Nearly all charges in this schedule apply uniformly regardless of which BOP Taqwa branch you use — Lahore, Karachi, Islamabad, Multan, or elsewhere. The one meaningful geographic exception: several charges (including cheque book issuance, cheque return charges, and Hajj/Umrah charges) are explicitly exempt from Provincial Sales Tax and Federal Excise Duty for branches operating in Islamabad, Azad Jammu & Kashmir, and Gilgit-Baltistan, per the notes accompanying each relevant fee item above. Confirm your specific branch's tax treatment if you're near one of these exempt regions.

Why Islamic Banking Fees Look Different From Conventional Charges

If you've compared this schedule against a conventional bank's fee list, you may notice Taqwa's charges are framed as service fees or processing charges rather than interest-bearing penalties — this isn't just terminology. Under Sharia principles, a bank cannot profit from a customer's default or late payment the way a conventional penalty interest rate does, since that would constitute riba (impermissible interest). Where a conventional product might charge compounding penalty interest on a missed payment, an Islamic banking product like Taqwa Auto or House Financing instead relies on a pre-agreed undertaking: any late-payment amount collected is typically channeled to charity rather than retained as bank income, and is structured as compensation for actual loss rather than a profit-generating penalty.

This is also why several products above show asymmetric fees by gender (lower processing fees for women across Auto Financing, House Finance, and Solar Finance) — these reflect deliberate financial-inclusion policy choices layered onto the Sharia-compliant structure, not a pricing quirk. If a specific late-payment or default charge isn't itemized above for a product you're considering, ask your branch directly how that product's Sharia-compliant late-payment mechanism works before signing, since it works differently from a conventional loan's penalty clause.

Frequently Asked Questions

Where can I find the current Taqwa Islamic Banking Schedule of Bank Charges?

Bank of Punjab publishes the half-yearly Taqwa Islamic Banking Schedule of Bank Charges (SOBC) as a PDF on its official website, bop.com.pk, under Islamic Banking / Downloads. It is revised twice a year.

Is cash withdrawal free on a Taqwa debit card at a BOP ATM?

Yes. Under the SOBC effective July 1 to December 31, 2026, cash withdrawal at a BOP ATM using a Taqwa debit/ATM card is free, while withdrawals at 1-Link or other banks' ATMs carry a PKR 35 per-transaction charge inclusive of FED/PST.

Do these charges also apply to conventional BOP accounts?

No. This schedule covers Taqwa Islamic Banking only. BOP's conventional branch network publishes a separate Schedule of Bank Charges — confirm the correct document for your account type on bop.com.pk.

Are Taqwa charges lower in Islamabad or Azad Jammu & Kashmir?

Certain items, such as cheque book issuance and cheque return charges, are exempt from PST/FED specifically for branches operating in Islamabad, Azad Jammu & Kashmir, and Gilgit-Baltistan, effectively lowering the total cost of those particular services in those regions.

When will this Taqwa SOBC next be revised?

BOP revises the Taqwa Schedule of Bank Charges roughly every six months. This edition covers July 1 to December 31, 2026; the next revision is expected around January 2027 — always confirm against the live PDF before relying on a figure.

Do Taqwa's LC and LG commission slabs differ by branch?

No. Letter of Credit and Letter of Guarantee commission slabs are set centrally and apply uniformly across all Taqwa branches nationwide, regardless of city.

Why do Taqwa's fees look different from a conventional bank's penalty charges?

Under Sharia principles, a bank cannot profit from a customer's default the way conventional penalty interest does, since that would constitute riba. Taqwa products instead use pre-agreed undertakings where late-payment amounts are typically directed to charity rather than retained as bank income.
