BankIslami Account Opening: Documents, Digital Onboarding & Which Account

Every document requirement by customer type, the exact digital onboarding steps, and a side-by-side comparison of all 11 BankIslami account types to help you pick the right one.

  • Digital Onboarding
  • In-Branch Opening
  • All Customer Types

BankIslami offers two paths to opening an account: fully digital onboarding from home, or the traditional in-branch process. Which documents you need depends on whether you're a salaried individual, a sole proprietor, a partnership, or a limited company — and which account you're opening determines the minimum balance and ongoing features. This page walks through both paths and every account type so you can pick correctly the first time. For current profit rates once your account is open, see BankIslami Account Rates.

Opening an Account Through Digital Onboarding

BankIslami Digital Onboarding lets you open an account from anywhere, without visiting a branch, through onboard.bankislami.com.pk or the BankIslami Mobile App. It currently covers the Islami Freelancer Digital Account, Islami Bachat Account, Islami Premium Savings Account, and Islami Current Account.

  1. Access the onboarding portal

Visit onboard.bankislami.com.pk or download the BankIslami Mobile App and select Sign Up / Create Account.

  2. Verify your CNIC and mobile number

Enter your CNIC number and the mobile number registered against that same CNIC with PTA. An error here almost always means the number isn't registered in your own name — using someone else's SIM won't pass verification.

  3. Complete KYC and liveliness check

Fill out the required KYC fields and provide a live selfie for a liveliness check; SIM ownership verification runs automatically alongside it.

  4. Choose your account type

Select from the digitally eligible accounts, available in PKR and, for some accounts, USD, GBP, EUR, AED, JPY, SAR, or CAD.

  5. Wait for account activation

BankIslami typically opens the account within two working days after all submitted information is verified, and emails a confirmation.

  6. Complete biometric verification within 70 days

Visit any BankIslami biometric ATM within 70 calendar days of activation. Miss this window and the account gets a temporary debit block — completing biometric verification at an ATM afterward lifts it; no branch visit required.

Sourced from BankIslami's official Digital Onboarding FAQs (onboard.bankislami.com.pk) and Digital Channels page on bankislami.com.pk. Digital accounts carry a monthly debit transaction limit of PKR 1,000,000.

Opening an Account In-Branch

For account types not yet covered by Digital Onboarding — including most business, partnership, and company accounts — opening in-branch remains the standard route. Bring the documents listed above for your customer category, along with the completed account opening form, to any BankIslami branch. BankIslami's round-the-clock phone banking and internet banking services activate once the account and any linked debit card are issued.

Frequently Asked Questions

What documents do I need to open a BankIslami account?

A salaried individual needs a filled account opening form, a valid CNIC (or passport for non-residents), and employment proof. Sole proprietors additionally need an NTN certificate; partnerships need a partnership deed and partners' CNICs; companies need incorporation documents, Memorandum/Articles of Association, and directors' CNICs plus NTN and Form 29.

Can I open a BankIslami account online without visiting a branch?

Yes, through BankIslami Digital Onboarding at onboard.bankislami.com.pk or the Mobile App — CNIC and mobile verification, a liveliness selfie, and SIM ownership check, with activation typically within two working days.

What happens if I don't complete biometric verification?

If it's not done within 70 calendar days of activation, a temporary debit block is placed on the account. Completing biometric verification at any BankIslami biometric ATM lifts it — no branch visit needed.

How much money do I need to open a BankIslami account?

It depends on the account — Islami Khair Current can be opened with Rs. 1,000, while Islami Mahana Munafa requires a Rs. 10,000 minimum investment. Digital and Asaan accounts are designed for low-documentation, low-minimum opening.

Which BankIslami account should I open?

Depends on your needs: Current/Khair Current for free unlimited transactions with no profit, Bachat/Asaan Saving for everyday profit-bearing savings, Gen Z for young digital customers, Freelancer Digital for IT exporters, and Business Saving or Current for SMEs and companies.

Is there a transaction limit on a BankIslami digital account?

Yes — digital accounts carry a monthly debit transaction limit of PKR 1,000,000, and certain remittance-linked digital accounts also cap incoming local credit at PKR 1,000,000 per month.
