Samba Bank Overview
Samba Bank Limited is a PSX-listed Pakistani commercial bank headquartered in Karachi, majority-owned by Saudi National Bank, and currently converting to full Shariah compliance. It remains an active, operating bank — unrelated to the "defunct" status some sources show for the separate Saudi Samba Financial Group.

Samba Bank is one of Pakistan's smaller listed commercial banks, majority-owned by a Saudi financial group rather than a local sponsor. Every fact on this page traces back to the bank's own disclosures, its PSX filings, and SBP publications — not aggregator guesswork.
Samba Bank's full legal name is Samba Bank Limited (SBL). It's a conventional commercial bank currently transitioning to Shariah-compliant operations, with SBP's in-principle approval for that conversion granted in March 2025. The bank trades on the PSX under the symbol SBL.
Is Samba Bank still operating? Yes. Some search results describe "Samba Bank" as defunct or merged out of existence — that refers to the Saudi Samba Financial Group, which merged into the National Commercial Bank of Saudi Arabia in 2021 to form Saudi National Bank (SNB). That 2021 merger is exactly why SNB is now the majority owner of the Pakistani subsidiary — it didn't close Samba Bank Limited, it changed who owns it. Samba Bank Limited (Pakistan) remains a separate, active, PSX-listed, SBP-regulated bank with 77 branches as of March 2026, a sitting CEO appointed in February 2026, and a Chairman appointed in August 2026. If you're a Samba Bank customer in Pakistan, none of that Saudi-side history affects your account, branch, or card.

Ownership: Who Owns Samba Bank?
Samba Bank is a majority-owned subsidiary of Saudi National Bank (SNB), which holds approximately 84.51% of its shares. SNB itself was formed in 2021 when Samba Financial Group merged into the National Commercial Bank of Saudi Arabia, and the combined entity inherited Samba Financial Group's original 2007 stake in the Pakistani bank.
SNB's ownership has been in flux for a while — track the live share-price impact on the Samba Bank Financial Results page. In March 2024, Bank Alfalah submitted a non-binding offer for SNB's entire 84.51% stake, and SBP cleared Bank Alfalah to begin due diligence that May. The process fell apart in November 2024 — SNB terminated the sale, and Bank Alfalah formally withdrew its announcement of intention. More recently, SNB disclosed to the PSX a fresh non-binding offer from Najd Gateway Holding Company, and PSX filings show due diligence activity running into mid-2026, including an "unusual price movement" notice on July 30, 2026. As of August 18, 2026, Najd Gateway secured a 90-day extension — to November 17, 2026 — to issue its formal Public Announcement of Offer for the 84.51% stake (852,040,531 shares), with Arif Habib Limited acting as Manager to the Offer and negotiations reported as still active. Anyone researching Samba Bank's ownership should check the latest PSX company announcements directly, since this can move fast.
Ownership history confirmed from Bank Alfalah's and Samba Bank's PSX filings (reported by Business Recorder and Arab News) and Samba Bank's SBL Chase Securities equity note.

Scale and the Shift to Islamic Banking
Samba Bank's branch network grew by 10 branches in 2024 and a further 20 in 2025, taking the network from 57 branches at end-2024 to 77 by end-2025 — a 35% single-year increase — spread across 36 cities including Karachi, Lahore, Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Peshawar, Sialkot, Multan, Gujranwala, Faisalabad, and Bagh (Azad Jammu & Kashmir). Its CASA (current + savings) deposit ratio climbed from 44.0% at end-2024 to 59.8% at end-2025, then to 62.3% by March 2026, with current accounts alone reaching 28.0% of total deposits by March 2026, up from 21.4% at end-2024. The bank's FY2025 Annual Report says it plans to open 50 more branches to reach mass-market segments across Pakistan.
On March 13, 2025, SBP granted Samba Bank in-principle approval to begin operating as a fully Shariah-compliant bank, pending completion of the regulatory conversion process — a shift CEO Rashid Jahangir has been specifically tasked with leading.
Branch count, city coverage, and CASA/CA mix figures confirmed from Samba Bank's official FY2025 Annual Report and Q1 2026 Quarterly Report (as at March 31, 2026).
