Bank Alfalah Raast & IBFT — Transfers, Limits & Charges

How to send and receive money instantly through Bank Alfalah, on both SBP's Raast network and the older IBFT rail — registration, limits, charges, and what to do if a transfer doesn't land.

  • Raast: Free, Instant
  • IBFT: Free up to PKR 25,000/month

Quick answer: Raast transfers up to PKR 10,000 per transaction are free; IBFT fees depend on your combined monthly transfer volume and are capped at 0.1% or PKR 200, whichever is lower. Use the calculator below to check whether your specific transfer qualifies as free.

Raast and IBFT both move money instantly between different banks in Pakistan, but they work differently and are priced differently on Bank Alfalah. This page covers both — how to set up your Raast ID, current limits and charges, and what to do if a transfer doesn't arrive — separately from the general feature overview on our App & Digital Banking guide. Further down the page is a calculator that actually answers the question everyone has: for a given transfer, is it free, and if not, how much will it cost?

What Is Raast?

Raast is Pakistan's national instant payment system, designed, owned, and operated by the State Bank of Pakistan. It lets individuals, businesses, and government entities send and receive money between different banks and financial institutions in seconds, using a simple identifier — typically a registered mobile number — instead of a full account number. SBP's own framework specifies Raast carries no charges and no minimum transaction size, though actual availability of specific Raast channels (P2P, bulk payments, P2M) can vary by bank, so it's worth confirming what's live on your own bank's app.

Setting Up Your Bank Alfalah Raast ID

Your Raast ID is your registered mobile number, linked to one Bank Alfalah account at a time. Bank Alfalah supports two ways to register:

MethodHow
SMSText "Raast" and send it to 8287 — your mobile number is linked to your account automatically.
Alfa appOpen Alfa > Side Menu > Raast ID > Register/Re-link tab > select the account to link > confirm.

To link a different account later, use the same Register/Re-link tab in Alfa and select the new account — this automatically de-links the old one. If you'd rather not receive funds via Raast ID for a while, you can temporarily de-link it from the same menu without closing the underlying account.

Sending & Receiving via Raast

You can send money to anyone with a Raast ID (their mobile number) or directly to their IBAN — the receiver doesn't need a Raast ID registered to receive a transfer sent to their IBAN. To receive funds on your own Raast ID, you must register it first; sharing your IBAN works even without registration. In the Alfa app, add a Raast payee under My Payees > Create New Payee > select Raast, then enter the recipient's IBAN or Raast ID.

Bank Alfalah's own Alfa FAQ documentation caps each individual Raast transaction at PKR 10,000, with your overall daily limit set by your Alfa transaction package. This per-transaction cap is worth checking against current terms before you rely on it for a large transfer — if you need to move more than PKR 10,000 in one go, IBFT or a bank transfer may be the better channel depending on the current limits on each.

Sourced from Bank Alfalah's official Alfa app FAQ document (bankalfalah.com). Limits are confirmed as of this page's Last Verified date — reconfirm in-app before a large transfer, since these can change.

Raast P2M — Paying Merchants by QR

Raast P2M (Person-to-Merchant) lets Bank Alfalah customers pay participating merchants instantly by scanning a Raast QR code through the Alfa app, or via SBP's broader Request-to-Pay (RTP) flow where a merchant sends a payment request the customer approves in-app. For merchants, Bank Alfalah currently charges a 0% Merchant Discount Rate (MDR) on Raast QR payments, with settled funds credited to either a BAFL settlement account or an IBFT-enabled IBAN account. Alfa's own QR is described as a combined Raast, Visa, and Mastercard (Masterpass) QR, so the same code can typically accept more than one payment scheme.

What Is IBFT?

Interbank Funds Transfer (IBFT) is the longer-established electronic transfer rail connecting Pakistani banks through 1LINK, used to send money to another bank using the recipient's full account number or IBAN rather than a Raast-style identifier. It's typically available through the Alfa app, Alfa Web (internet banking), and — for some transaction types — over the counter at a branch.

IBFT Charges & Limits

Combined monthly IBFT volume up to PKR 25,000Free
Combined monthly IBFT volume above PKR 25,000 (per transaction thereafter)0.1% of amount or PKR 200, whichever is lower
Roshan Digital Account (RDA) customersFree, regardless of volume

These figures come from Bank Alfalah's own Alfa Islamic product disclosure and match the bank's published IBFT FAQ for the conventional app. Older Bank Alfalah FAQ material has referenced a flat "PKR 50 + FED per transaction" IBFT charge instead — if you see that figure elsewhere, treat the monthly-threshold structure above as the current one, since it's the version in Bank Alfalah's more recent disclosures, but confirm against the live Schedule of Charges (bankalfalah.com/digital-banking/schedule-of-charges) before relying on either figure for a specific transfer.

Sourced from Bank Alfalah's official Alfa Islamic product page and Alfa FAQ documentation (bankalfalah.com). Charges are revised periodically — confirm the current Schedule of Charges before applying.

Will My Transfer Be Free? — Raast & IBFT Fee Calculator

No other page on this topic actually calculates it for you. Enter a transfer amount and your rough monthly transfer volume so far, and this tells you — using Bank Alfalah's real, published thresholds — whether your transfer is free, what it costs if not, and which rail (Raast or IBFT) is the cheaper choice.

Your Transfer

Please enter a valid transfer amount.
Bank Alfalah's free IBFT threshold is a combined monthly total, not per-transfer — this is what you've already sent via IBFT this calendar month, before this transfer.
RDA customers get free IBFT regardless of volume, per Bank Alfalah's official RDA terms.

Fee Data & Sources

Raast per-transaction cap (PKR 10,000, Alfa app) is sourced from Bank Alfalah's official Alfa app FAQ documentation; Raast itself carries zero charges per both Bank Alfalah's disclosures and the State Bank of Pakistan's Raast framework. IBFT's free monthly threshold (PKR 25,000 combined volume) and the fee beyond it (0.1% of the transaction or PKR 200, whichever is lower) are sourced from Bank Alfalah's official Alfa Islamic product page and Alfa FAQ documentation, matching the bank's conventional-app IBFT disclosures. RDA customers get free IBFT regardless of volume, per Bank Alfalah's official RDA terms.

This calculator applies the IBFT fee only to the portion of your combined monthly volume that falls above the PKR 25,000 threshold — consistent with how Bank Alfalah describes the threshold as a combined monthly total, not a per-transfer allowance. Older Bank Alfalah FAQ material has referenced a flat "PKR 50 + FED per transaction" IBFT charge instead of this monthly-threshold structure; this tool uses the monthly-threshold version as the current one, per the bank's more recent disclosures, but always confirm against the live Schedule of Charges before a large transfer.

Raast vs. IBFT — Which to Use

ConsiderationRaastIBFT

Charges on Bank AlfalahNoneFree up to PKR 25,000/month, then 0.1% or PKR 200
Per-transaction limitPKR 10,000 (Alfa app)Set by your daily package/channel limit, generally higher
SpeedInstant, 24/7Instant to near-instant, 24/7 on digital channels
Best forSmaller, frequent transfers where the recipient's mobile number is knownLarger transfers, or when only the recipient's account number/IBAN is known

Where both are available for a given transfer amount, Raast is generally the cheaper option since it carries no charges at all — the PKR 10,000 per-transaction cap is the main reason to fall back to IBFT for anything larger.

Failed or Delayed Transfers

Both Raast and IBFT are built to credit the beneficiary's account instantly. If a transfer is deducted from your account but doesn't appear in the beneficiary's account within a day, Bank Alfalah's guidance is to contact the 24/7 call center at 111-225-111 or email contactus@bankalfalah.com with the transaction reference number, date, time, and beneficiary details. If the issue isn't resolved through the call center, escalate through Bank Alfalah's formal complaint channel — see our Helpline & Complaints guide for the full escalation path, including SBP's complaint mechanism if the bank's own process doesn't resolve it.

Raast & IBFT FAQs

What is my Bank Alfalah Raast ID?

Your Raast ID is your registered mobile number, linked to one Bank Alfalah account of your choice. Register by texting "Raast" to 8287, or through Alfa under Side Menu > Raast ID > Register/Re-link.

Is Raast free on Bank Alfalah?

Yes. Raast transfers — whether sent via Raast ID or IBAN — carry zero transaction charges. Merchant (P2M) payments via Raast QR also carry a 0% Merchant Discount Rate for the merchant.

What's the difference between Raast and IBFT?

Both move money instantly between different banks. Raast is free and mobile-number-based with no minimum transfer size; IBFT identifies the recipient by account number/IBAN and carries a charge once your monthly volume passes PKR 25,000.

Are Bank Alfalah IBFT transfers free?

Free up to PKR 25,000 combined monthly volume. Beyond that, 0.1% of the transaction or PKR 200, whichever is lower, per transfer. RDA customers get free IBFT regardless of volume.

What if my transfer doesn't arrive?

Both are designed to credit instantly. If it hasn't landed within a day, call 111-225-111 or email contactus@bankalfalah.com with the transaction reference, then escalate via the bank's complaint process if unresolved.

Can I use Raast for international transfers?

No — Raast (and IBFT) are domestic systems for transfers within Pakistan. For inbound remittances from abroad, see the international transfer options on your account type's page instead.
