IFC Signs $100 Million Deal for Pakistan's First Diversified Payment Rights (DPR) Programme

The International Finance Corporation (IFC) and Bank Alfalah signed a Project Agreement at the Finance Division, Islamabad, for Pakistan's first Diversified Payment Rights (DPR) Programme — an initial transaction of up to USD 100 million. The DPR structure lets the bank raise long-term foreign-currency financing against eligible future foreign-currency payment flows, without a sovereign guarantee, potentially opening the door to further international investor participation. Bank Alfalah is the first Pakistani bank to launch a DPR programme under this framework. The agreement was signed by Atif A. Bajwa, President & CEO, Bank Alfalah, and Momina Aijazuddin of IFC, in the presence of Federal Minister for Finance and Revenue Senator Muhammad Aurangzeb.

SBP Approves 2-for-1 Share Split

The State Bank of Pakistan issued a "No Objection" for the amendments to Bank Alfalah's Memorandum and Articles of Association needed for the proposed share sub-division, clearing the way for the split (reducing face value from Rs. 10 to Rs. 5, doubling shares outstanding) to proceed to shareholder approval. A share split changes the number and price of shares without changing total shareholder value — it is a liquidity and accessibility measure, not a performance signal.

Afghanistan Operations — Divestment to Ghazanfar Bank in Progress

Bank Alfalah has been progressing a multi-stage, non-binding process to divest its Afghanistan operations (branches in Kabul and Herat, where it has operated since 2005) to Ghazanfar Bank. The State Bank of Pakistan and Da Afghanistan Bank have granted in-principle approvals allowing Ghazanfar Bank to begin due diligence. Bank Alfalah has stated the proposal does not amount to a completed sale and remains subject to due diligence, definitive agreements, and full regulatory compliance before any transaction is finalized. A prior 2019 attempt to exit Afghanistan (via a proposed sale to Azizi Bank) did not proceed after regulators declined to approve it — check Bank Alfalah's PSX filings directly for the current status, since this is a live, multi-stage process.

Latest News FAQs

What is the latest news about Bank Alfalah?

Recent Bank Alfalah news includes H1 2026 profit after tax of PKR 21.33 billion (up 39.6% year-on-year), a completed 2-for-1 share split, a record PKR 20 billion AAA-rated Tier 2 TFC issuance, the opening of its 1,200th branch, and continued progress on its planned exit from Afghanistan.

Is Bank Alfalah exiting Afghanistan?

Bank Alfalah has been in a multi-stage process to divest its Afghanistan operations to Ghazanfar Bank, with in-principle regulatory approvals from the State Bank of Pakistan and Da Afghanistan Bank allowing due diligence to proceed. As of the most recent official disclosure, the transaction was not yet finalized — check Bank Alfalah's PSX filings for the current status.

Did Bank Alfalah's share price change because of the stock split?

The 2-for-1 split reduced the face value of each share from Rs. 10 to Rs. 5 and doubled the number of shares outstanding, which mechanically roughly halves the per-share price without changing the overall value of an existing shareholder's holding. It does not by itself indicate anything about the bank's underlying performance.
