First women bank csr activities aren't a side program bolted onto normal banking — they're close to the bank's entire founding purpose. FWBL was created by an act of parliament specifically to close the gap in women's access to formal credit, so its social-impact work and its core business overlap more than at a typical commercial bank.

WE Finance Code
FWBL signed the Women Entrepreneurs Finance Code at a launch ceremony in Karachi, committing to expand financing access for women-led businesses.
Model PWD Branches
Dedicated branches — including Clifton Karachi, Shadman Lahore, The Mall Peshawar, and Gujrat — designed for accessibility for persons with disabilities.
FWBL KHAAS

The Shelter Project — FWBL's Earliest CSR Work
Per FWBL's official "About Us" page, one of the bank's earliest social-impact programs was the Shelter Project in the early 1990s, which provided loans to women who could not otherwise afford housing. Funds were disbursed for the upgradation and construction of homes in slum areas (katchi abadis) that had been regularized under the Sindh Goth-Abad Scheme. In the same period, FWBL also ran training programs to help women entrepreneurs develop the skills needed to qualify for its business loan facilities — an early version of the capacity-building approach that later shaped programs like FWBL KHAAS.
Has FWBL's Model Been Replicated Elsewhere?
FWBL has described its own model as the first public-sector women's bank of its kind in the world, with Tanzania and India later launching comparable institutions in 2009 and 2013 respectively. That founding distinction is a large part of why FWBL's social mandate and its commercial banking business are so closely intertwined.

What Awards Has FWBL Received?
FWBL's CSR and inclusion work has picked up some independent recognition over the years: the bank received a "Best CSR Bank" award in 2017, and an Employers' Federation of Pakistan (EFP) Award in 2016. These predate the 2026 privatization and reflect the bank's record as a state-owned institution, not a claim about its current ownership under IHC.
